May 19: Kites, Ages 5-8 (koinobori in celebration of International Children’s Day)
Celebrate Children’s Day, a Japanese National Holiday, by creating the traditional “koinobori,” otherwise known as carp streamers. Children will have a chance to learn about the Japanese influence of the Martin House while creating these colorful windsocks!
June 23: Flipbooks, Ages 8-12
Kids will “flip” when creating landscape-themed flipbooks! Children will be given time to explore the historic landscape and learn how to create a hand-drawn narrative based on natural themes.
July 21: Bug Art, Ages 5-8
Go on guided forage in our landscape to search for leaves, plants and other natural materials. Armed with your treasures, we will go to the education space and make “bugs” with through natural shapes we found in the gardens.
August 4: Nature Dyes, Ages 8-12
Did you know that historically most dyes come from the natural world? Berries, plants and flowers are great resources to paint and dye materials. We will explore some of these examples in the Martin House gardens, and then design our own fabric with natural dyes.
